No Major Travel Disruptions At S. Fla. Airports

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida airports are expected to see an increase in traffic Friday which is one of the busiest travel days of the years but so far, there have been no disruptions at either Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.

Traffic has been flowing smoothly so far at both airports.

In addition, the TSA is trying to make your holiday travel a smooth experience by being a little more understanding.

The agency is offering a hotline for travelers with special medical needs who may require extra help getting through security.

It's called "TSA Cares" and is designed to assist travelers before they get to the airport.

Agents will answer any questions about screening procedures.

This comes after criticism of the agency's intrusive patdowns and x-rays.

There have also been complaints of embarrassing screenings for people with medical issues.

Passengers can call the hotline and have customer service managers coordinate checkpoint support.

They and their items will still be screened.

The toll free number is (855) 787-2227 and is available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
