Eddy Curry Set To Make Heat Roster

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Miami Heat center Eddy Curry is a project who looks like he's already made the roster, despite not playing a minute in the Heat's two preseason games.

Curry could almost best be described as the Big Enigma. When he's in shape, motivated, and ready to play, he's a 13 point/5 rebound per game machine.

When he's not motivated, he can let his weight explode and be worthless on the court.

Still, the Heat needs size and Curry can certainly bring plenty of it. He stands 7-feet tall and weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 290 pounds, though his weight has reportedly been going down over the summer and since training camp began.

"We'll evaluate everything, but the idea when we brought in Eddy to camp was to think big picture and not to rush it and not to get caught up in evaluation early on," Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said Wednesday.

Curry has missed the Heat's preseason games due to a hip flexor injury, but he's continued to lose weight and said that "every day, I'm able to do a little bit more."

If Curry can get himself into game shape by the time February rolls around, it could give the Heat the true final piece of the puzzle to help them capture the NBA championship.

Allowing Curry to bang on other teams' centers and big men will tire out the team's defense and open up more lanes for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Shane Battier, Norris Cole, and Mario Chalmers.

Still, Heat fans shouldn't bank on Curry much at the beginning of the season. The Heat believes in him and is willing to wait for him to get into full game shape.

The only question is has Curry matured enough to realize this is his last shot in the NBA?

If Curry is ready to put in all of the hard work and can stay focused, the sky's the limit for both himself and the Miami Heat.
