No Swim Advisories Lifted For Crandon Park South & North Shore Park

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Swimming advisories have been lifted for two out of three Miami-Dade beach areas, but a third advisory remains in effect.

On Wednesday, the county's Department of Health issued no swimming advisories for Crandon Park South, Sunny Isles Park (174th Street & Collins Avenue) and North Shore Park (74th Street & Collins Avenue) after test results showed bacteria levels were above acceptable levels.

On Thursday, the waters off Crandon Park South and North Shore Park were given the all clear, but Sunny Isles Park remained under the advisory. The health department said additional beach water samples have been taken from the affected area and they're awaiting test results.

The water samples are being analyzed for enteric bacteria (enterococci) that normally inhabit the intestinal track of humans and animals, and which may cause human disease, infections, or illness. The prevalence of enteric bacteria is an indicator of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage.

Those who choose to go swimming at the beach areas where the advisories are posted face an increased risk of illness, particularly for susceptible individuals.
