Report: FAU In "Serious Talks" With Coaching Candidate

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Florida Atlantic University won't go winless in 2011, but it will be searching for a new head coach because Howard Schnellenberger is retiring after starting the FAU program from scratch.

FAU athletic director Craig Angelos has been searching for a coach for the last few weeks, and he may be starting to zero in on potential candidate.

According to the website FAUOwlAccess.com, sources have told the website that FAU is engaged in "serious talks" with current Arkansas Razorbacks offensive coordinator Garrick McGee.

If McGee is the top prospect, he brings with him a solid offensive background. The Razorbacks are averaging more than 30 points per game this season and rose to as high as number three in the country on the back of the team's prolific passing game.

Whoever takes over the FAU Owls program, they will have a great facility and stadium that they can really sell recruits on.

But, with the rise of FIU, UCF, and USF, plus the big three schools in the state, FAU has a long road to become a respected opponent in college football.
