Police Question 2 Men After Miami Shooting, Chase

MIAMI (CBS4)- Police questioned two men after they said the men fired gunshots and led police on an early morning chase Saturday.

According to the City of Miami Police Department, just before 5 a.m. an off duty officer heard shots fired in the area of S.W. 11 Avenue and 7th Street. He informed dispatch of the gunshots and canvassed the area in an attempt to identify where the shots were coming from.

A person sitting by a bus stop told the officer that the shots came from a white SUV.

According to police, the off duty officer relayed the information to the dispatcher. Soon after, an on duty officer in the area saw the white SUV fleeing from the area.

Police said an "occupant" of the vehicle pointed a gun at the on duty officer.

The officer discharged his weapon, but did not hit anyone, according to police.

The passenger bailed out of the vehicle running in front of oncoming traffic. He was accidentally struck by a responding patrol cruiser, police said.

The driver of the SUV bailed out of the vehicle as well.

A perimeter was set up and SWAT responded to search for the driver, who was later found and arrested.

The passenger was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both men are currently being detained for questioning.
