New I-595 Ramps To Open Monday Morning

DAVIE (CBSMiami.com) – Drivers traveling westbound on I-595 on Monday morning will notice two new ramps are open.

At 5 a.m., construction crews will open a new off-ramp to Nob Hill Road and a new entrance from State Road 84.

"On Monday, motorists who use the westbound off-ramp to Nob Hill Road will travel on a new bridge constructed over the on-ramp to I-595 from westbound S.R. 84 at Pine Island Road," said FDOT I-595 Project Manager Paul Lampley in a statement.

The exit for the new "braided" off-ramp to Nob Hill Road will begin at the Pine Island Road overpass.  According to project engineers, the "braided" ramp will eliminate the weaving drivers did using the old ramps if they wanted to exit.

"Opening the new ramp and bridge will create a new traffic pattern which will look very different than what motorists expect to see," said Lampley.

Last month, a braided ramp was opened last on westbound I-595 between Davie Road and University Drive.

The project team also plans to open continuous westbound S.R. 84 by the end of 2011. This requires building a new and separate section of westbound S.R. 84 between U.S. 441 and Davie Road. Project leaders said lanes for westbound S.R. 84 in this area will be open a year ahead of schedule.

The I-595 project consists of the reconstruction of the I-595 mainline from the I-75/Sawgrass Expressway to the I-95 interchange and from Peters Road to Griffin Road on Florida's Turnpike for 2.5 miles for a total project length of 13 miles. The project includes the reconstruction of the Turnpike Interchange, the additional lanes on the I-595 mainline, the addition of braided ramps and bypass ramps and a new reversible express lanes system.
