Hollywood Police Raid Marijuana Grow House Near School

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Hollywood Police raided a house on the 2600 block of Van Buren Street Monday evening and discovered a marijuana grow house.

According to Lieutenant Diana Pereria of the Hollywood Police Department, police raided the two bedroom house and found three dozen mature pot plants.

Neighbors who watched police take plants out of the house described a strong odor. "I can smell it I can smell it from here, " said neighbor Carlos Altamirano. He added, "It's almost impossible to think that thing happened very close to my house."

It also happened very close to the Ben Gamla Charter School. The alleged growhouse is only separated from the school by one house.

"It is very, very close. It's in a school zone, it's on the same street as a school which is very disturbing to us that live here, "said neighbor Shauna Preston. She said she's glad the house is getting cleaned up.

Roberto Rivera, 39, and Victor Acosta, 22, were arrested.

The pair is charged with Trafficking in Cannabis (Marijuana), The Sale, Manufacture or Cultivate Cannabis (Marijuana) within 1000 feet of a school and Renting a structure for the purpose of Trafficking.

Lt. Pereria said some of the marijuana plants that were confiscated were upwards of five feet tall. Hollywood Police said they were tipped off to the house by Broward County Crime Stoppers.
