Coast Guard Searching For Overdue Boater Sailing From Captiva Island

CLEARWATER, FLA. (CBSMiami) - The Coast Guard is searching for an overdue boater aboard the Skua 33-foot sailboat, which departed Captiva Island on October 11.

According to the Coast Guard, Kim Reed Heindl, 55, is missing. They have listed his residence as "unknown."

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., were notified Thursday evening by Heindl's employer stating that he had not yet arrived to his final destination of Key West, where he was due to arrive Oct. 14.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater launched an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew Friday to perform two searches but found nothing. Air Station Clearwater launched assets again Saturday morning for a first light search and had the same results.

The Skua is a white, Hunter sailboat and was last known to be equipped with a raft.
