The High Tech Ins and Outs Of The New iPhone 4S

MIAMI (CBS4) - You might be wondering why people are standing in line for a new phone that looks just like the old one.

Sure, the outside of the iPhone 4S is the same as the outside of the iPhone 4, but on the inside, it's a whole new brain.

You can ask, "who was Albert Einstein?"

"Let me check on that. Okay, here you go," responds Siri, while displaying information about Einstein.

Siri is a digital personal assistant who scours the web when you ask a question.

Ask her, "What should I eat tonight?"

She'll reply, "I've found several restaurants for you nearby," while displaying a list of nearby restaurants with their distance from you.

She can answer practically anything. No, really, anything.

Ask Siri, "what is the meaning of life?"

She might respond, "all evidence to date suggests it's chocolate."

But lots of phones have voice command. For example, being able to send and receive text messages with your voice is nothing new, but the difference with Siri on the iPhone 4S, is that she also has personality.

Tell her you love her, she might say, "you hardly know me." Keep pushing her, and she'll say, "Oh, stop."

She's also practical.

Tell her to wake you up at 8 AM in the morning, and she'll set your alarm.

Ask her to schedule your meeting, and she'll put it in your calendar.

That, coupled with one of the fastest mobile processors on the market and a high quality camera, makes this phone very different than its predecessor, the iPhone 4S.

Siri is also highly sought after. AT&T announced Friday it had activated a record number of iPhones on its network. That also means there were lots of activation problems, where people had to wait until late Friday night to start using their phones.
