Boil Water Order Issued After Water Main Break Capped

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Powerline Road is reopen and water has been restored to homes near a water main break in Fort Lauderdale, however, a precautionary boil water notice remains in effect.

Wednesday night, Ft. Lauderdale Public Works crews completed repairs to an 8-inch water main at Powerline Road and NW 16th Street. Water gushed from the water main for hours on Wednesday, which flooded the area and left around 50 homes without water.

However, water service has been restored as of Thursday. Now that water is restored, city officials issued a precautionary boil water order for the following areas:

- Properties facing Powerline Road (N.W. 9th Avenue) from N.W. 19th Street to N.W. 13th Street

- Properties facing N.W. 16th Street from Powerline Road to N.W. 12 Avenue

All tap water used for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking or other consumption should be brought to a rapid boil for at least one minute. Tap water is okay to use as is for washing and bathing.

The City will issue a follow-up notification when the Precautionary Boil Water Notice is lifted.

Powerline Road is currently open in both directions.
