Legislature Approves Audit Of Hollywood's Budget

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) – A request by Senator Eleanor Sobel to have the state's Auditor General take a closer look at the City of Hollywood's budget has been approved by the legislature.

"I want to make sure with this audit that every rock is turned and every penny is accounted for," said Sobel before the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee agreed to request the audit.

Sobel asked for the audit after the city declared a state of "financial urgency" and instituted an 11 percent property tax increase.

Sobel pointed to an independent report that has already looked at the city's finances and said the city wasn't conservative enough when estimating incoming revenue on which its budgets were based.
