Afternoon Tri-Rail Riders Can Expect Delays

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Tri-Rail riders can expect continued delays Wednesday due to a CSX train derailment in Fort Lauderdale.

According to Tri-Rail officials, the CSX freight train derailment took place between the Fort Lauderdale station and Fort Lauderdale Airport station.  CSX spokesman Gary Sease said a single locomotive derailed near the New River Bridge.  He said it was a relatively minor derailment which had a significant impact on the commuter Tri-Tail train.

Tri-Rail officials said trains will run on an hourly schedule during the Wednesday afternoon and evening rush hour. Trains cannot operate as regularly scheduled due to the on-going delays due to repairs being made which were caused by the derailment.

Six trains have been cancelled to mitigate delays. They are southbound P633, P637, and P641 and northbound trains P634, P638, and P642.

Morning commuters experienced delays of up to two hours due to the closing of the train tracks.

Passengers are strongly advised to find alternative transportation, if at all possible.
