Former Navy Man Reels In 455lb Swordfish
ISLAMORADA, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Being a former Navy helicopter pilot, John White was used to having to outsmart the enemy. But he was battling a different kind of monster near Islamorada just three weeks after retiring from military service.
White, 33, of Rochester, N.Y., was fishing off the Florida Keys over the weekend when he reeled in a 455-pound swordfish.
Like any battle, this one wasn't short. It took White five hours to get the massive fish into the boat.
White said he had always dreamed about swordfishing off the Florida Keys and wanted to give it a shot to celebrate the end of his nine years of military service.
White retired from the military after flying helicopter surveillance missions over Iraq for the past year.
