SW Dade Wreck Overturns Police Car, Injures One

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A man on a joyride in an unmarked police cruiser crashed into a tree and overturned before coming to a stop against a fence early Friday evening.

(Source: CBS4) A man was airlifted to the hospital after crashing an unmarked police cruiser. The man was not an officer.

Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta confirmed to CBS4 that the man was not an officer and somehow got the keys to the cruiser. He was reportedly a relative of an officer and not authorized to drive the car.

He was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit a tree near the intersection of Southwest 117 Avenue and Southwest 115 Street.

The driver was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He has not been identified, nor has the officer who is assigned to the vehicle.
