Over 400 Guard Licenses Revoked In Last 2 Years

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4)- The state has revoked 448 security guard licenses in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties in the past two years.

The most common reasons were felony crimes and petty theft, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The revoked licenses represent a small fraction of the 130,000 issued in South Florida.

It's not known whether the officers were working as guards at the time.

Security companies said more needs to be done to close loopholes. Currently, an officer can work as an unarmed guard while waiting for the licensing division to complete state and federal background checks.

The state automatically denies a license to felons and those who have committed certain Florida misdemeanors.
