Police Investigate Deadly Miami Double Shooting

MIAMI (CBS4)- Police are investigating after two people were shot and killed during a shooting in Miami.

According to Kenia Reyes of the City of Miami Police Department, shots were fired at three people at Victory Homes, 530 NW 73 Terrace shortly after 11 a.m. Two of the people were struck numerous times by gunfire, police said. The third victim, a child who was with his father, was unharmed.

Devon Brouehton, 20, was dead on scene. Albert Latson was transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

According to CBS4's Gary Nelson, Brouehton came to visit his friend Latson. He left his one-year-old son in the front seat as he chatted with Latson near the car. That's when three or four masked men in a gray Nissan opened fire. One of their targets, Brouehton is shot and killed on the spot.

Latson, 26, was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said. Latson has a long history of arrests for violent crimes, Nelson reported.

The unharmed child was Brouehton's son and was taken to his family who were nearby.

"It was a sigh of relief, but it was still devastating that this child may have been related to one of these victims and was a witness to all of this that took place," Ignatius Carroll with Miami Fire Rescue said.

At least 36 bullets were fired in what police sources told Nelson was believed to be a 'turf war' style hit.

"We're just asking from the community at this point that we're at their clemency to help us," officer Reyes said.

Police do not know the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police are, however, looking for a person who fled in a vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Police Department's Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
