Greek Council Bans Alcohol At UCF's Frats & Sororities

ORLANDO (CBS4) – No keggers for Sigma Chi in Orlando.

The University of Central Florida's Greek Council is cracking down on the school's fraternities and sororities following a freshman death after attending a frat party.

On Tuesday the council banned alcohol at sorority and fraternity events until further notice. The decision, however, does not affect events that were registered and approved before 5 p.m. on Sept. 2.

University officials have said they don't know whether drinking played a role in the Aug. 25 death of 18-year-old Ann Hefferin. They are awaiting results from a toxicology report.  Hefferin attended a party at Sigma Chi fraternity where alcohol was served just before her death.

UCF officials say the fraternity had not received approval for the on-campus party.

The university has ordered Sigma Chi and Delta Delta Delta to cease social activities until the investigation is completed.
