Man Jailed In Sunrise Woman's Murder

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – A Sunrise man accused of killing a friend during an argument will remain behind bars.

During a hearing Tuesday morning, a judge denied bond for 45-year old Eric Brown.

According to his arrest report, Brown called 911 on Friday to report that he had gone to the home of a friend, 68-year old Vivian Thompson, only to find her dead on the living room couch. Arriving deputes noted that Thompson's home, located in the 9600 block of NW 25th Street, appeared to have been ransacked and she had bruises on her head, face, neck and upper torso.

Brown reportedly told investigators he arrived at Thompson's home around 8:30 a.m., knocked on the door but didn't get an answer. According to the report, he said he went around to the back door, which he knew would be unlocked, went inside, found her body and called 911.

Investigators noted blood on Brown's hands. He reportedly told them he had touched Thompson's face. According to the report he then rode his bike to a nearby shopping center and then to his sister's house where he lives.

During questioning, Brown reportedly changed his statement several times. He then allegedly admitted that he and Thompson did get into a fight "over bills and the purchase of a refrigerator."

According to the report, Brown said Thompson grabbed him by the neck and he took a swing at her to free himself. During a second round of questioning Thompson reportedly changed his statement again. He allegedly told Sunrise police that he and Thompson had argued, she grabbed his neck and then he started punching her in the face and upper torso. According to the report, Brown then pushed her down on the couch and strangled her.

Brown then allegedly went to sleep on the couch opposite her. When he woke up, Brown said he realized she was dead and he killed her, according to the report.

Investigators said Brown then panicked and rode his bike to his sister's house. He then went back to Thompson's house and called 911. He reportedly admitted to police that he made up the story about the back door being open and finding her body.

Brown has been charged with second degree murder.
