Infant Remains Critical After Cooper City Crash

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – An infant remains in critical condition at Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood after a horrific crash which killed the child's mother, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

It happened Friday evening just after 7 p.m. in the 8900 block of Stirling Road in Cooper City.

Sheriff's office traffic investigators said a 2007 2-door BMW and a 2008 4-door Mercedes were westbound on Stirling Road when the BMW slammed into a Scion which had just enter the roadway from a parking lot.

BSO said initial information from witnesses was that the BMW and Mercedes were speeding however, that has not been confirmed.

A 22-year-old woman and her infant child, who were passengers in the back seat of the Scion, were both rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital where the woman died.

The driver of the Scion, 23-year old Stacy Ann Melisa Telemaque, and 22-year old Patrick Cave, who was in the front passenger seat, were taken to an area hospital where they were treated and released.

Traffic investigators said there was no infant car seat in the Scion.

BSO said the driver of the BMW, 32-year old Abbas F. Khalife of Davie, refused transport to the hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
