Ponzi Trustee In Rothstein Case Sues Fla. Jeweler For $2.4M

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4)-A bankruptcy trustee is suing a Florida jewelry store where convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein spent millions of dollars on bling.

The lawsuit filed this week in Fort Lauderdale seeks $2.4 million from J.R. Dunn Jewelers. The trustee contends the jeweler should have to repay money spent at the store by Rothstein.

The jewelry store says it had no knowledge of the scam and only sold jewelry at a fair price.

The trustee is filing so-called clawback lawsuits to reclaim payments Rothstein made from his scam's profits. The lawsuits can seek to reclaim money going back to fall of 2005.

Rothstein, a disbarred lawyer, is serving a 50-year prison sentence. His scheme involved investments in phony legal settlements.
