FSU Retiring Terrell Buckley's Number

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Former Florida State Seminoles Terrell Buckley used to be a thorn in the side of every Seminoles opponent. Now, Buckley will become one of the few Seminoles who have ever had their number retired at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The school announced Thursday that Buckley will have his jersey number, 27, retired before the Seminoles take on Louisiana-Monroe on September 3rd at the Doak.

Buckley played at FSU from 1989-1991 and set the school's single-season interception record of 12 during his junior season. In 1991, he became the school's second Jim Thorpe Trophy winner, given to the nation's best defensive back.

For his career, he pulled down 21 career interceptions and scored seven career touchdowns, four on interceptions and three on punts.

Buckley went on to become the fifth overall pick in the 1992 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He had at least one interception in 13 straight seasons and played for Green Bay, Miami, Denver, New England, the Jets, and the Giants.

Buckley owns a Super Bowl ring from his play with the Patriots in 2002.

Buckley will join Fred Biletnikoff, Ron Sellers, Ron Simmons, Deion Sanders, Charlie Ward, Warrick Dunn, Chris Weinke, and Derrick Brooks as FSU players to have their jersey retired.
