Woman Claims In-Laws Threatened To Sell Unborn Baby

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – A pregnant Broward County woman has alleged her husband and his family attacked her and threatened to sell her baby for $5,000, according to Hollywood Police.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Pamela Stanley, 19, told police she was attacked when she was more than 8 months pregnant. The three suspects, Jacob Mitchell, 20, and his parents Shirley John, 42, and Steven Robert Carr, 41, were arrested Wednesday.

All three were arrested for battery on a pregnant woman, CBS4's Shannon Hori reported.

Stanley said Mitchell slapped her and pushed her onto a bed. Then, according to the Sun-Sentinel, John pushed her onto the ground and kicked her between the legs. Later, Carr would squeeze her belly and said he was going to sell the baby for $5,000.

But in court the alleged victim's mother told the judge that they didn't want the child and that there is no doubt that her daughter has been abused.

"They do not want this child," she said. "Well we would day adoption. They would say sell the baby. She was beat up literally by three people."

Judge Joseph Murphy set each of their bond at $10,000. He ordered the group to not contact Stanley and threatened "harsh consequences" if they disobeyed the restraining order.

"There will be no contact directly, indirectly through any family members, in any make, manner or shape, or form…either by carrier pigeon," Murphy said.

If they violate that order, now that they're out of jail, bond for the three could be revoked.

Stanley's mother told the judge that her daughter is due to give birth on Thursday, following a high risk pregnancy.

In another twist, CBS4 News conducted a record search for Mitchell and Stanley's marriage license, but one could not be found in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. So there is a possibility that they're not even married, Hori reported.
