Two Broward Men Hurt In Fireworks Mishaps
CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) - Two South Florida men were injured in fireworks mishaps on the Fourth of July.
In Pembroke Pines, paramedics were sent to the 15900 block of SW 15th Street around 9:15 p.m. after a 27-year old man suffered injuries to his thumb and pinky finger when a firework he was trying to light went off in his hand.
The man was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was treated for "percussion-related injuries consistent with a firework getting very close to the skin."
In Coral Springs, a man in his 20s was hurt when a firework struck his face. It happened just after 9 p.m. in the 10100 block of NW 3rd Street.
"We believe that, even some of the fireworks you can buy over-the-counter, but when you launch it out of the tube like that, they come out of the tube with a lot of force, so that can do a lot of damage," said Coral Springs Fire spokesman Captain Mike Moser.
Because of the seriousness of the injury, the man was airlifted to North Broward Medical Center for treatment.
In a separate incident in Coral Springs, a bottle rocket type of firework shot into a garage of a home in the 9100 block of NW 41st Street and started a fire. The Coral Springs Fire Department said there was significant damage to the garage, but tno injuries.
