"Rocky" Songwriter Raises Awareness For Wounded Warriors

KEY LARGO (CBS4) - An Oscar nominated songwriter took to the sea in the Florida Keys to help raise awareness for an important group which helps wounded veterans.

In the waters off Key Largo on Saturday, during an event to celebrate the July 4th weekend, Carol Connors helped display an underwater banner to raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors Trust. During the dive Connors was dressed as the Statue of Liberty complete with a red, white and blue torch.

Connors, who is best known for co-writing "Gonna Fly Now" from the movie "Rocky", was the lead singer of the pop vocal trio The Teddy Bears who a number one hit song in 1958 with "To Know Him is to Love Him". On June 27th, she performed at a benefit concert for the Wounded Warriors Trust at the Kennedy Center.

The Wounded Warriors Trust provides assistance to the wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and their families.
