Scott Names Tallahassee Insider Chief Of Staff

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Governor Rick Scott has faced problems since he took office that he couldn't fully tap the Tallahassee power structure. That may be about to change as Scott named Steve MacNamara as his new chief of staff Friday.

MacNamara most recently worked as chief of staff and general counsel for Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos.

"His experience and political skill will be an asset to all Floridians as we continue to position Florida as an economic leader," Scott said in a statement.

MacNamara replaces Mike Prendergast, who took the job with zero experience in Florida government. But Prendergast isn't leaving state government, he has been appointed to head the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs.

MacNamara has also served under John Thrasher and headed the state's business regulation agency under former Governor Bob Martinez.
