Palm Beach Deputy Dragged By Motorcyclist During Traffic Stop

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS4)-A dash camera video released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office shows a deputy being dragged into traffic on the back of a motorcycle.

The incident happened while Deputy Mike Musto Sr. of the PBSO was trying to pull the man riding the motorcycle over for going 112 miles per hour on Interstate-95.

"I knew he was going to take off so I grabbed him by the shoulder, right below his right shoulder, and I had a good strong grip on him," Ferel said. "Well, at this point he got the gear and hit it so hard that he jerked me… right off my feet."

Musto, a part of the Aggressive Driving Unit, said he managed to shake it off, and jog back to his cruiser to go after the motorcyclist riding his white motorcycle.

Deputy Ron Cohen and other officers tracked down the motorcyclist, later identified as 38-year-old Victor Morales.

"You say to yourself, you know, you thought you saw it all until something else happens that just makes you get mind boggled, you know…it's mind boggling," Cohen said. "When I saw this video for the first time I was like, 'Oh my goodness.'"

Police eventually arrested Morales at a barber shop where he worked.

In training, I've gotten off my own motorcycle during training exercises so I know how it is to fall off a motorcycle and it does not tickle," Cohen said.

Musto, a 34-year veteran with the PBSO, said he can never recall a day like that one.

"I've had a few close calls, but nothing where I thought I was going to die," he said.

Musto had minor injuries and missed only a couple of days at work. One of his first stops included chasing down a motorcycle.
