West Fires Intern For Re-Tweet

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – In the aftermath of Representative Anthony Weiner's transgressions, one would think members of Congress would watch their Twitter accounts a little more carefully. But an intern for Rep. Allen West didn't heed the example.

It all started with an anti-homosexual rant from actor Tracy Morgan last week. Morgan's rant triggered a backlash against the 30 Rock star and made him persona non grata for the time being in Hollywood because the rant targeted his son and what would happen if he was gay.

According to Roll Call, Congressman West's Twitter account re-tweeted a message from the Scissor Sisters, an out-of-the-closet band that wrote the following message to Morgan's son:

"Dear Tracy Morgan's son: if you are gay, you can TOTALLY come live with me. We'll read James Baldwin & watch Paris is Burning. xxANA"

But for West, this was an unauthorized tweet that had the potential to undermine the Congressman's vehement objection to homosexuality.

Rep. Allen West's Twitter account wrote later: "Very sorry about the unauthorized RT. We were not hacked, an intern made an error. Apologies to all."

The intern has since been fired by Congressman West.
