Marlins Continue Sinking In NL East
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – In the midst of an 8-game losing streak, and having yet to win a game in June; the Florida Marlins may be closer to getting one of their superstars back from the disabled list.
According to the Pam Beach Post, Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez is set to start a rehab assignment with the Marlins Class A Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday.
Ramirez has been on the disabled list since May 29 dealing with a strained back. He was mired in a slump and hitting just north of the Mendoza line before he went to the DL.
Ramirez has been moved around the lineup to help get him out of the slump, but nothing has helped.
But Ramirez's good news comes as the Marlins continue to remain hush-hush about their ace pitcher Josh Johnson. The Marlins have not had Johnson throw off the mound yet and have remained tight-lipped about his injury, saying only that he has shoulder inflammation.
Ever since Johnson and Ramirez went to the DL, the Marlins have been sinking fast in the NL East. They've dropped a full five games behind the Philadelphia Phillies and are two games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
The Fish fired their hitting coach to try and light a fire under the hitters, but so far, it's not translated into a win for the Fish.
