Hanley Heads To 15-Day DL

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Based on his play this year, it shouldn't surprise many Florida Marlins fans that former All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is headed to the 15-day disabled list.

Ramirez has been slow out of the gates at the plate this season and is batting just above the proverbial Mendoza line at .210 for the season. He's also managed only four home runs during the 2011 season.

Ramirez injured himself on May 29 and is on the DL for the first time. The Marlins put off placing him on the DL because they hoped the injury would heal faster than it actually has done to this point.

In his place, the Marlins called up left handed pitcher Brad Hand from the team's Double-A affiliate in Jacksonville. Hand has gone 7-1 with a 3.53 ERA in 11 starts for Jacksonville. He'll pitch in Josh Johnson's spot in the rotation.

Johnson has been on the DL dealing with shoulder inflammation. No return date for Johnson has been set.
