Dade Street Named in Honor Of Fallen Officers

MIAMI (CBS4) – It was an emotional and inspirational service at Miami-Dade's Tropical Park on Thursday morning as the county's police department officially renamed a section of SW 56th Street for two officers who died in the line of duty earlier this year.

Hundreds of officers and friends of the slain officers attended the service in which Southwest 56th Street between SW 97th Avenue and the Palmetto Expressway was renamed "Officers Roger Castillo and Amanda Haworth Street".

Officers Castillo and Haworth were shot and killed January 20th as they tried to arrest Johnny Simms who was wanted for a murder in Liberty City. Simms was also killed in the gunfire by a third officer during the shootout.

Castillo leaves a wife and three children behind. Haworth is survived by her 13 year-old son.

Their spouses and children watched on Thursday as roads signs in the parents honor were unveiled.

A flight of police helicopters offered a salute from air. The officers' sacrifice was described during the ceremony as a testament to all who risk their live in public service.

"I'm just very emotional and very proud of our daughter," said Robert Haworth. "This is an overwhelming event for all of us and hopefully something that no other police officer's family will have to go through."
