State Legislators To Vote On Abortion Bills

TALLAHASSEE - (CBS4) - A bill that would require women to view an ultrasound of their fetus or hear descriptions about them before getting an abortion is making its way through the Florida House.

It's one of two controversial bills making its way through the state legislature. The second bill would make it more difficult for women under 18 to gain access to court waivers from a law requiring parental notification prior to an abortion.

One of the provisions of the proposed bill would require a judge to take into consideration a minor's maturity and would require a girl to go to a nearby court in the circuit instead of the appellate district.

Women could opt out of seeing or hearing about the ultrasound, however, they would still have to pay for the ultrasound procedure.

The Florida Senate approved the two bills Wednesday and a final vote is expected Thursday.
