Plantation Apartments Burglarized During Termite Tenting

PLANTATION (CBS4) - Some residents of a Plantation apartment complex said they were left not only bug-free after their building was tented for fumigation, they were also left TV, laptop, jewelry and cash free as well.

Plantation police confirmed they are investigating six burglaries at the Berkeley Manor apartments, located in the 54 hundred block of NW 19th Court.

Residents say they were forced to leave their homes during the tenting process which occurred from April 29th to May 2nd. At some point during, or after, the fumigation process, but before the tents were removed, thieves broke into the apartments and stole what ever valuables they could find.

Police say this type of crime of opportunity, while risky, has occurred before. In some cases, they recommend that valuables and expensive electronics be removed from the residence, if possible, before it's tented for fumigation.
