Notter To Get A Nice Check When He Retires In June

FT. LAUDERDALE (CB4) - When he leaves his post as Broward County schools Superintendent this summer, James Notter will be taking a hefty check with him.

In his 25 years with the school district he has accumulated more than $240 thousand in unused sick leave and vacation time on top of his nearly $300 thousand a year salary. Since he is ending his contract with the district early on June 30th, he will not be eligible for any other compensation.

Notter says he hasn't made plans on how he will spend the lump sum check. Instead, he says he's focused on a new ethics policy and help the school board decide where cuts can be made to make up for a $150 million deficit.

Board members have said in the past they would try to preserve as many academic programs as they could in considering where the cuts should take place.
