Swim Advisory Lifted For Hobie Beach

MIAMI (CBS4) – After five days of being declared off limits for swimming, the county's health department has giving the all clear to Hobie Beach.

On March 30th, Miami-Dade's health department issued a swimming advisory for the beach after water samples showed a higher amount of enteric bacteria.

Enteric bacteria are normally found in the intestinal track of humans and animals.  Those swimming in waters prevalent with the bacteria put themselves at risk of disease, infections or illness.

The high-number of bacteria points at pollution from feces, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and/or human sewage.

Since August, 2002, the health department has conducted beach water quality testing at 17 sites including Hobie Beach.
