Car Hits Man, Plows Into Oakland Park Store

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) - It was déjà vu for workers at an Oakland Park convenience store after a car hit a man in front of the store before plowing through its front windows.

It happened Monday at the Kwik Stop on NE 38th Street and 3rd Avenue.

"The guy knocked me over," explained Guillermo Ramirez.

The crash was caught on the store's surveillance cameras. On the video it shows as quickly as Ramirez is knocked down, he's up again appearing dazed and wondering what just happened.

"It hurt right here," he said, pointing to his bandaged hand. He said it also bruised his hip and foot.

Luckily, he wasn't seriously hurt.

Customers inside the store were lucky too. It's usually very crowded, but no one was hurt, just scared by the crash.

"I hear like a big explosion," explained store clerk Alex Dasouqy, "like when the car hit the store and I look and the car was inside the store."

After the crash both men from inside the car took off on foot. This isn't the first time something like this happened. In fact, just one year ago, it was nearly the same story.

"You know this is not the first time," said Dasouqy. "It's the second time. The first time was like a drunk guy, he hit and he run, the same thing."

The Kwik Stop is now considering putting up columns in front of the store to prevent this type of thing from happening again.
