Few Roster Spots Remain For Marlins

JUPITER, Fla. (CBS4) - There are only two days left for the Marlins spring training camp, and that means the competition for the final roster spots are coming down to the wire.

According to CBSMiami.com news partner the Miami Herald, there are just two spots remaining with one going to a bullpen pitcher, and the other going to a bench player as an extra outfielder.

The spot in the outfield could go to Scott Cousins, according to the Herald. Dewayne Wise, a nonroster invitee, was expected to compete for the spot, but he's been injured through most of spring training.

Wife has been dealing with problems in his left toe, the Herald reported. Cousins raised his average to .237 this spring after Monday's game.

The Herald reported that eight relievers are fighting for seven spots in the Marlins bullpen. The Fish has plenty of arms in camp, but the question is can they bridge the gap between the stellar starting pitching and closer Leo Nunez.

The Fish were hoping to have Matt Dominguez at third base. However, he struggled in spring ball and is heading to the minors to get his swing into shape.

That opened a spot to Donnie Murphy and he was expected to make the team and start at third base, according to the Herald.
