Hocutt Ditches UM For Texas Tech

MIAMI (CBS4) - University of Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt is headed to the Lone Star State. Hocutt has resigned as UM's athletic director to take the same job at Texas Tech University.

Hocutt was in Texas Wednesday to interview for the athletic director position at Texas Tech. The young athletic director is originally from Texas.

Hocutt has been with UM since 2008 and most recently fired football coach Randy Shannon and hired his replacement, Al Golden.

Hocutt has been in charge of a once powerful athletics program and football team that has fallen on tough times and is a shell of its once powerful self.

University of Miami President Donna Shalala said she was "deeply disappointed," in the move by Hocutt.

Texas Tech hired Hocutt to replace retiring athletic director Gerald Myers.
