DCF Secretary and Regional Director Discuss Abuse Case

Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary David Wilkins is asking many of the same questions the public and news media are asking about the horrific death of a 10-year-old girl found in a pest control truck off I-95. The girl's twin brother remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital recovering from serious injuries.

DCF Secretary David Wilkins and Regional Director Jacqui Colyer joined  Eliott Rodriguez for News & Views on the same night attempted murder charges were filed against Jorge Barahona and his wife was taken in for questioning by Miami-Dade police.

How were the Barahona's allowed to adopt four children after allegations of child abuse had surfaced against them? Given the severity and frequency of abuse complaints against the couple, is DCF guilty of negligence, incompetence or both?
Wilkins, who has been on the job only three weeks, promises a thorough investigation and review of DCF practices. Colyer gave Eliott a timeline of the DCF investigation launched days before the girl was found dead in the truck. You can watch the entire interview with Wilkins and Colyer on News & Views Saturday February 19th at 10 a.m.
