Two State Races Too Close To Call

MIAMI (CBS4) - It's Election Day for several candidates vying for state offices, and the results were too close to call hours after the polls closed Tuesday night.

Voters cast their ballots in Florida Senate District 33 to nominate a Democrat and House District 103, to elect a candidate to sit in the state legislature.

At 11 p.m., the Democratic race for the vacant Senate District 33, which includes the communities of Overtown and Miami Gardens, came down to two men.

State Rep. Oscar Braynon II and Phillip Brutus were the front-runners, with Braynon ahead by roughly 300 votes.

The winner will go up against Republican Joe Celestin, the former mayor of North Miami in the March 1st general election.

The other special election will be for State House District 103 including parts of Miami Gardens, Opa-Locka, and Miramar. It's the general election for this seat because no Republican is running.

At 11 p.m. just 101 votes put Sharon Pritchett ahead of Barbara Watson.

The results are not official until certified by the canvassing board.
