FAU Police Officer Accused Of Shooting Escort Attempted Suicide

BOYNTON BEACH (CBS4) - A Florida Atlantic University police officer accused of shooting a Boynton Beach escort was found hanging in his cell early this morning.

Jimmy Dac Ho, 47,  was rushed to Wellington Regional Medical Center after jail deputies found him at around 5 a.m. He is listed in serious condition and under constant watch by a deputy, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

It is not known what Ho hung himself with.

Ho is charged with kidnapping and murder while engaged in a felony; he's being held without bail.

Boyton Beach police said the shooting happened Monday night. When they arrived at the 29-year old woman's apartment they found her in a bedroom bleeding from several gun shot wounds. She was rushed to a Delray Beach hospital where she underwent surgery. She is said to be in critical condition and paralyzed from the waist down.

Using the woman's phone records, investigators were able to trace several calls back to Ho. During questioning he reportedly admitted to the shooting, saying it was self defense. He said there was an argument over money, and he thought the woman was trying to rob him.

Ho's attorney said he was shocked to learn of the suicide attempt, saying his client gave no indication of harming himself.

"I never would have guessed this would happen," Williams said.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel contributed to this report.
