State Of Alabama Stands Tall Over College Football

MIAMI (CBS4) - Florida has long been the destination for top high school football recruits. But a new trend is coming into focus this year that shows Alabama has become the top state for inbound college players.

The two major schools in the state have won the last two BCS national championships and the last two Heisman Trophy winners have come from Alabama and Auburn respectively.

Last year, both schools landed consensus top 5 classes, and both teams are poised to pull off a similar feat this year.

Currently, Alabama has the top rated recruiting class according to Rivals.com. Auburn is not far behind with the number six rated recruiting class. Both schools have signed secured at least 10 commitments from four-star players and at least one five-star player.

Alabama has a slight edge heading into National Signing Day on Wednesday, but both schools are finishing strong and either could sit atop the recruiting world by the end of the day on Wednesday.

It's not just the state of Alabama that's seeing the talent choose the South over other regions of the country. Rivals.com's top ten recruiting classes feature eight schools that would be in the sun belt region of the country.

And if the history of the BCS shows anything, the South is where the best football is played. The only BCS champion to come from outside the sun belt region is Ohio State, and ask any Miami fan and they'll tell you all about Ohio State's controversial win.
