Broward Expo Features Innovative Ideas For Teachers

DAVIE (CBS4) - Broward teachers looking for an exciting way to bring a subject to life for their students may find it at this weekend's Impact II Idea Expo at Nova Southeastern University.

Mrs. Scudder's first grade class is learning about peace by studying famous peacemakers in history. The teaching method and materials for the class were made possible thanks to her attendance at a previous Expo and a grant from the Broward Education Foundation.

"Whenever you dive in to any topic with kids, if you really want to get their attention, you want to give them a 3D experience and that takes money," said Scudder.

Saturday's Expo at the university's Davie campus will feature innovative educational speakers and creative teaching workshops. Teachers like Scudder, who developed successful programs within their classrooms, have been awarded funding to help package and promote their ideas to other teachers.

"What the Broward Education Found does is it enables us to make learning come alive," said Scudder.

Jorene Jameson, President & CEO of the Broward Education Foundation, said the grant money is used to support innovative ideas.

"What the grants do is they really support the teachers time to work on the curriculum that they are developing and for supplies and materials they just don't have the budgets for in their school," said Jameson.
