Teen Arrested For Drug-laced Cookies

PLANTATION (CBS4) – A South Plantation High School student was arrested Friday when two students were hospitalized after drug contaminated sweets were shared.

The unnamed teen is charged with the delivery of a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school and with possession after the chocolate chip cookies he allegedly brought to school caused other students to behave as if they were under the influence, said Plantation Police Detective Philip Toman.

Broward County Schools spokeswoman Marsy Smith said the cookies were laced with some sort of substance that may have been marijuana.

The two students affected -- one is a ninth-grader, the other a tenth-grader -- were taken to Plantation General Hospital, and are expected to be okay.

The teen who brought the cookies also appeared to be under the influence, Smith said, and was found with marijuana on him.
