Student Arrested For Having Gun At School
PLANTATION (CBS4) – South Plantation High School was on lockdown Friday after it was discovered that a student had a firearm in his backpack.
Richard Simpson, 17, an 11th grade student was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm on school property, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting arrest after an unknown caller alerted authorities of the danger.
Investigators said Simpson was trying to sell the gun, which had been stolen during a home burglary.
Police are not saying if the gun was loaded or not.
Broward Schools Spokeswoman Nadine Drew said the two-hour lockdown was a precaution and only lasted until it could be determined that no danger to students remained.
Drew said there never was a threat to anyone, and initially the student refused to surrender his backpack.
