UM Hires NFL Assistant As Off. Coordinator
MIAMI (CBS4) - University of Miami head coach Al Golden reached into the NFL to snag his new offensive coordinator.
Golden announced Thursday that he has hired former Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch to take over play-calling duties for the Hurricanes.
"We are thrilled to announce Coach Fisch as our offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach," said Golden. "Through the process, it became abundantly clear that Coach Fisch wanted to be back in college, and more important, he had a passion to be at the University of Miami.
Fisch had previously coached under Pete Carroll, Mike Shanahan, and Brian Billick. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant to South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier.
Fisch's NFL career spanned 8 seasons and he spent one year as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the University of Minnesota.
While in charge of the Golden Gophers offense in 2009, Fisch's team was ranked 100th in the country in scoring offense, 111th in rushing offense, and 75th in passing offense. Fisch's offense also had one of the worst third-down conversion rates in the country and was ranked 113th in sacks allowed per game.
