DAVIE (CBS4) – A man barricaded man threatening to kill himself forced the lockdown of several schools in Davie Thursday afternoon.

Four Nova schools; Nova Eisenhower, Nova Blanche Forman, Nova Middle and Nova High along with Davie Elementary were placed on a precautionary lockdown around noon.

Davie police assisted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office also blocked off the streets in the area of Southwest 61st Avenue and 38th Court.

A SWAT team was moved into position and police began negotiations with the man to surrender peacefully.

Just after 3:30 p.m. the lockdown was lifted at the Nova schools and students who had parents or guardians arriving to pick them up were released from Davie Elementary. Those who walked home were being kept inside the school until the situation could be resolved.
