FSU Student Killed In Shooting
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) - A Florida State University student was killed, a second person injured, when rifle accidentally went off at an off-campus apartment.
FSU police said Evan Wilhelm, 20, was showing his friends Ashley Cowie, 20, and Keith Savino, 20, a new light on his rifle when he accidentally pulled the trigger. The bullet hit Cowie in the chest and Savino in the wrist. Cowie, who was from Orange Park, was killed; Savino's injuries were minor.
Students living next door heard the shots.
"Shots went off a little after one, woke me up and that's when we all went downstairs," said Darren Desantis. "Everyone was in the courtyard frantic and didn't know what to do."
Wilhelm, who reportedly admitted that he had been drinking earlier in the day, has been charged with manslaughter.
