Diet? What Diet? Girl Scout Cookies Arrive In S. Fla.

MIAMI (CBS4) -- For those of you trying to stay on a New Year's Diet, the Girl Scouts are about to make it more difficult because it's Girl Scout cookie time across South Florida.

The first truckloads of cookies are arriving at South Florida distribution sites Monday. The Girl Scouts of the USA have been selling cookies for nearly 80 years.

From Thin Mints to Samoas, all the favorites are back for a total of eight varieties of cookies, all with zero trans-fat, and also a sugar free Chocolate Chip.

But for all you cookie monsters out there, be prepared to shell out a little more this year. A box of cookies costs $4 this year, up from $3.50 last year, but the size and number of cookies per box remains the same.

The annual cookie sale is part of a big business for the Girl Scouts. Revenue from the sale makes up a large part of the yearly budget, so every cookie counts. The program is the largest girl-led business in the country and generates over $700 million for girls and communities across the country.

In Miami-Dade, the annual Girl Scout cookie sale runs from January 13th to February 10th. In Broward County, the cookie sale runs from January 20th to February 8th.
