It happened at 481 Northwest 7th Terrace in Pompano Beach where the 10-year-old victim, identified as Darroll Glasco, lives with her mother and father.
Relatives say the accused shooter lives with his mother in Fort Lauderdale but visits his half-sister and father often.
Glasco told detectives he found the handgun in the back yard of the home, but later confessed to being in possession of the gun for some time.
Doephine Williams, the great-grandmother of the victim she calls “Molly” tells CBS4’s Joan Murray that the girl is doing well a day after the shooting. The 10-year-old was treated and released from Broward General Medical Center on Wednesday evening.
“It wasn’t a life threatening injury. The bullet went straight through and she’s being treated with antibiotics,” says Williams.
Williams says she raised the 10-year-old girl’s mother identified as Connie Williams.READ MORE: Brightline Celebrates 3 Years Of Service As It Nears Orlando Extension Completion
She says she never allowed firearms in the home.
“They never had weapons. I don’t know where he got the gun, what he’s telling police,” Doephine Williams says about the 14-year-old.
CBS4 News has learned that her granddaughter, Connie Williams was investigated in 2006 for endangering another one of her children.
Meanwhile neighbors are mystified what led to the shooting.
“I was like ‘what is Dariyale doing out this time of night’”, says Belinda Sapp who lives next door. She says she saw the 14-year-old walking out of the back yard Wednesday night and later heard arguing.
She’s heartbroken over the shooting, because she says she considers the 10-year-old victim one of her own children.
“I feel bad for her. She’s in the same grade as my grandson. She’s a good little girl. I love them like my own grandkids cause i have grandkids their age.”
The accused shooter Dariyale Glasco will turn 15 in January.MORE NEWS: Ronald Acuña's 1st Game In Miami Since Knee Injury, Leads Braves Past Marlins 5-3
