2nd Pedestrian Death On Griffin Road

DANIA BEACH (CBS4) -- A second pedestrian has been struck by a car and killed on Griffin Road this month.

Carol Maddi, 24, of Dania Beach was trying to cross north to south in the 3200 block of Griffin Road Thursday when she was hit by a west-bound pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Merle Dalonzo, also of Dania Beach.

Maddi died at the scene, according to Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jackles.

Dalonzo stopped after he hit Maddi and cooperated with the investigation.

It has been determined that Maddi was not crossing the street at a designated crosswalk and that speed was not a factor in the accident.

Two weeks ago, on Dec. 8, Sophia Lupi also was struck and killed while crossing Griffin Road in almost the same place. Lupi was riding a bicycle when she was hit by a van driven by Henry Nicholson, 47, of Hollywood.

Both fatalities are being investigated by BSO traffic homicide detectives.
